Going by this sample alone, Kokona definitely has it. When she's apologizing for rapping I was like, "aw that's cute" and then she smacks herself and I'm like, "ahh my people".

My special ability? Apparently I can passively understand a small amount of remedial Japanese spoken in a hurry!

What... did I just watch? The weirdest blend of Produce and J-Pop is as weird as expected...

I largely stopped following idols circa 2017, so I missed the Produce 48 hype aside from seeing it pass in Twitter timelines every now and then. I do however remember the early emergence of Last Idol at the time. It seems to me that's what got Japan accustomed to idol survival audition programs in the first place, am I wrong?

I'd say that definitely helped, though I think a lot of people were following the early seasons of "Produce" from here too, which helped normalize the idea.

Between Ive and Le Sserafim, PD48 was indeed a harbinger of things to come. It’s a shame it’s most likely rigged though. Ruined the franchise in Korea, at least... but a fun watch still.

I haven't watched one of these survival shows since Produce 48, in part because I've become less interested in KPop as a genre overall, but I'm all in on this one. Hello! Pro is my jam, so the return of Kasahara has my full attention. Her decision to graduate from ANGERME was a bit of a shock, as she was only 17 at the time, and positioned to take on a much larger role in the group. I would put her in the jack of all trades/master of none space, although she's had a couple of years to hone her craft, so maybe she's mastered a few things since 2021.
