Fourth Floor II is not on the fourth floor. This should not have been a shock to me — I visited the original version of Fourth Floor in Koenji plenty during the 2010s, and despite the name, it was always located in a basement. Yet when I was invited out to a party called Technique being held in the neighborhood, my brain didn’t make the connection. When it dawned on me that I was going to the new version of an old favorite — still subterranean, but more spacious — a rush of nostalgia came over me.

This was a reminder of what the best kinds of music venues in Tokyo are…and a great example of how the past can sometimes be a treat to revisit.
