“YOSHIKI To Perform U.S. National Anthem at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 16, for ‘Hello Kitty Night,’ Before the Dodgers vs. Nationals Baseball Game,” went the PR blast that landed in my inbox. I immediately became intrigued — here was a wonderful triangulation of my interests (music, baseball, mascots) serving as yet another example of Japanese pop culture blossoming around the world. Most intriguing of all — I’d actually be in Los Angeles for it, with my flight back to Tokyo after Coachella schedule for the day after.
