Make Believe Bonus: 2015 Live Report Jamboree
Pulling Some Dispatches From A Decade Ago Out Of The Digital Ether
I recently went to an event to write a live report for…the first time in a bit. This sort of article used to be a staple of the music journalism world but — mirroring the ways a lot of things have gone in the industry — now seems like something reserved for the biggest of artists and their hyped-up tours, along with a few major festivals (which half the time writers just shit on). I get it to a degree, but there was certainly value to these types of pieces, especially as a way to snapshot developments in specific scenes.
They could also be extremely fun…which is what my recent jaunt (coming to scrmbl soon) felt so refreshing. It spurred me to revisit the saved-from-theViacom-kill pile of live reports I wrote for MTV 81 a decade ago…and realized “wow, I went to a lot of stuff, but these pieces are lost to time.” So for this week, I’ve dredged up three from 2015 offering three different perspectives on live events in the country.
